Originally the university was a private institution founded by local mining concerns for those who were unable to travel to San Francisco for college. The original mining company Gallena Mining LLC gave way to a private board of trustees in 1912 and has been a private university ever since. The University is a national model for positive change and academic excellence. Our focus is on quantitative performance and results.
