High School Teachers vs Professors

Soccer guyWell I’m back from break, and I wanted to write about something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently.  One thing that’s different between high school and college are the instructors. I came from a very small high school where I had formed good relationships with most of my teachers. I thought it might be harder in college to form the same relationships with Professors. Good news is that I have had Professors, even in large lecture classes that I have gotten to know well just by going to class every day.

Ready for the Holidays!

TurkeyI can’t believe it’s just one week before Thanksgiving! I’m so looking forward to my trip back home for a few days. I can almost smell mom’s turkey roasting in the oven. I think Fall is my favorite time of the year. Maybe I’m still a kid at heart, but I love the anticipation of the holidays. Sure, I’ve got finals to deal with afterwards, but I’m ready to go home for one of my favorite breaks. Then it’s back to the books for just a couple weeks of cramming and one loooong break for the year-end - yeah!

Summer’s Almost Here!

ClockOk, so I’ve still got a lot of work to do — chemistry project, ULE essay, and finals. But, the weather has taken a turn toward summer and I’m beginning to smell freedom! At least for summer break. I really can’t wait.

Some of my dorm friends and I are planning a big road trip the day after finals. We’ll be heading to San Francisco for 2 days, then drive up through the redwoods, stop in Eureka for 1 day, then Portland, then Seattle where we’ll spend 4 days. I can’t wait. Good friends, no studies, and a much needed break!

Ahh, I love summer in California.

Ok, back to finishing up my chem project…

Jazz at the Atrium

AtriumJust thought I’d share this really cool picture. Tonight I went to a Jazz concert & had dinner at the Atrium with some friends. It’s a really an awesome place. I took this just outside the back entrance. The guy was cool about it — and he plays a mean horn! Did some photoshop desaturation stuff to make it look older. Hope you all enjoy the picture…

Finals Week

FinalsFor those of you who think us college students spend all our time “partying”, let me tell you the truth. There’s a whole lot of studying going on around here right now, and very few parties! Yep, it’s finals week. The time of the semester when I get little sleep, and my brain feels like it’s going to explode.

Maybe it’s all the review, but one interesting thing I’ve noticed about finals week is… I actually figure out a ton of stuff that might not have clicked until now. While I dread this time, it’s actually one of the most “educational” for me - if I can survive!

Winter Break is Here!

BarbecueWow, can you believe this Dec weather in CA? Finals are over, and I’m officially on break!!! It will be great to get out of the dorms for the next 15 days. But I have to say, I’ve gotten used to my new life here. It might not be too cool to say it, but I like being able to set my own schedule. I can sleep in till almost noon on Tues and Thursday, and study after hanging out in the evening with the 5th floor gang. Movie Wednesdays in the commons, NLTH Saturdays, and hours of conversations in D’s room throughout the week have all helped to make this a pretty cool place to be.

I’ll be back…

Campus Services

I’ve discovered there are a bunch of Free services available to you on campus. I won’t cover all of them, but here are a couple of cool ones…

  • Frankie’s charter: it’s a van available to students between 6pm-3:30am Sunday-Thurs. It’s how you get around once the shuttle buses have stopped running
  • The Learning Center: it’s a free tutoring service. So if you’re struggling in a class or simply want to get ahead, they’ll hook you up with a tutor.
